People often ask me what I love about Cleveland. As a huge rock fan, I love that we’re the rock and roll capital of the world and home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But, my favorite is that Cleveland is home to Content Marketing World

People often ask me what I love about Cleveland. As a huge rock fan, I love that we’re the rock and roll capital of the world and home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But, my favorite is that Cleveland is home to Content Marketing World, hosted by Joe Pulizzi and Content Marketing Institute. This event has grown from 600 attendees in 2011 to over 2,600 this year coming from all over the world (over 50 countries)! Pulizzi and his team even sold out all of the hotel rooms in Cleveland! How often does that happen? And, a huge majority of those attendees were visiting Cleveland for the first time.

What you need to understand about this group of marketers is that we LOVE to post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and just about every social media network out there. And, most of us have large networks of followers. What does that mean for Cleveland? It means a great experience will get a ton of mileage and drive even more visitors. Here are ten of the best aspects of Cleveland that attendees were able to experience:

1. Joe Pulizzi

The “Godfather of Content Marketing” is a proud Clevelander and works hard to hold Content Marketing World here. He features different areas of Cleveland with the events surrounding the conference, and in the videos he creates. His passion for Cleveland shines throughout the conference.

2. The Cleveland Convention Center 

With the 2013 opening of the new Convention Center, attendees were among the first to experience the brand new $465 million venue with last year’s event. This year’s event was even bigger and the set up was expanded!

3. Ohio City’s Breweries

The Opening Night reception was an Ohio City Pub Crawl at Market Garden, Bier Market and Great Lakes Brewery. This showed off a new area to attendees and showcased the beer from these breweries.

4. Cleveland’s Marketing Leaders

The event itself includes sessions with many of our marketing leaders. This year, local speakers included Jeff Rohrs (Exact Target), Paul Roetzer (PR 20/20), Jim Kukral (author, JFK Services, LLC), Jeff Charney (Progressive Corporation), Craig Coffey (Lincoln Electric) and King Hill, Jim Sollisch and Amber Zent from Marcus Thomas (If I’m missing anyone, I apologize). Cleveland has a very strong marketing community and this event only helps to make us stronger.

5. Cleveland Residents 

I heard many comments about how nice and helpful Clevelanders are to visitors. Pulizzi had us all raise our hands in the kick off presentation so attendees could find people to give recommendations of things to do, which we did gladly!

6. Cleveland Music Venues

This year’s night out was at the Jacobs Pavilion. The Cleveland Skyline becomes the backdrop of the bands playing on stage and makes for an incredible scene. Last year’s event was at the House of Blues…voted as Cleveland’s best music venue this year. It gives visitors a great taste of our music scene.

7. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

Not much needs to be said here. Cleveland is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Capital of the World, so no visit is complete without a stop here.

8. Cleveland’s Incredible Restaurants 

Content Marketing Institute hosted a pre-conference get together at Urban Farmer. It was the perfect venue. Wednesday nights after the conference are always free nights for attendees to check out whatever they want. I made quite a few restaurant recommendations – Hodge’s and Melt are my two “must visits”! Content Marketing Institute also offers many dining recommendations.

9. Cleveland’s Food Truck Scene 

I listed this separately from the restaurants because I think they deserve their own listing. There were multiple food trucks stationed all over Jacob’s Pavilion with a wide variety of choices. My personal favorite was the Fire Mac & Cheese from Streat Mobile Bistro…the pretzel crumbs put it over the top!

10. Kevin Spacey 

OK, not just Kevin Spacey (I can’t write a recap of Content Marketing World without mentioning him). William Shatner and Kevin Smith have also been keynote speakers! Even beyond the speakers and conference, with movies now being made in Cleveland (like The Avengers and Draft Day), celebrity sightings are happening a bit more often.

We have a lot to be proud of in Cleveland, and none more deserving than Content Marketing World and the hard work that Joe Pulizzi and the entire Content Marketing Institute team puts into making Cleveland the International Home for Content Marketing!
