Often times when I mention I live in Youngstown people question what I do for fun living there. They often imagine it as the rundown rust belt city that had seen better days, but much to their surprise Youngtown has quite a bit going for it to draw young professionals there.

For starters, the downtown has seen a resurgence in recent years with several bars and restaurants sprouting up in and around Federal Plaza. Recently a brewery, hot dog shop, and burger bar have opened up shop. And those places joined the already in place several bars geared towards young professionals downtown. It even features a coffee shop and dessert store for your daily extras.

Beyond the aspects of nightlife downtown, Youngstown features a bevy of other features that make it ideal for young professionals. The YBI, Youngstown Business Incubator, located downtown has been a great asset drawing young business minded individuals to the city to help foster the startup of their business. It has helped make Youngstown featured as one of the best cities in the county to start a business.

Downtown also features several venues with live music and art displays to give Youngstown a nice cultural flavor. And when the warm summer months arrive, several summer concerts and festivals are held at various venues across downtown Youngstown.

From walking, hiking, biking, climbing, and kayaking all these activities can be done within Youngstown’s parks.

In all, Youngstown has a lot of charm that may not exactly be seen by a random passerby but once you take the chance to get to know it, you’ll realize it’s the perfect place for a young professional.
