Alicia Hansen is the writer behind Poise in Parma, a healthy balance blog for Clevelanders. After losing more than 100 pounds “the old fashioned way”, she started her blog in October 2009 to detail her life in and around Northeastern Ohio through the activities her, her husband and her Golden Retrievers partake in.
A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College’s theatre program and with years as a non-profit fundraiser under her belt, Alicia now serves at L’Nique Specialty Linen Rental’s Director of Marketing and Events. Her event credits includes several food and wine events including the Cleveland Magazine Silver Spoon Awards Party, 5Ks such as the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis, galas including the festivities surrounding Tom Hanks at The Hanna in 2009 at Great Lakes Theater Festival, and more. In 2011, Alicia was honored by CBC Magazine as their Connector’s Choice Awards 2010 Rising Star as a member of the local Arthritis Foundation staff.
Practicing and teaching yoga is an important part of Alicia’s life. She started teaching in 2012 as she completed her 200 hour certification at a local yoga studio. In the spring of 2014, Alicia enrolled in the ParaYoga Master Training Program and is excited to expand upon her yoga education with Yogarupa Rod Stryker. Alicia taught popular Yoga Rocks the Park outdoor yoga classes in the summers of 2013 and 2014. Today, she teaches special events like her YOGA/BRUNCH series, corporate classes and private sessions. She also serves as a guest lecturer on the topic of yoga at Case Western Reserve University.
Currently a regular contributor to the Cleveland Plus’ #BeThePlusBlog and the PlayhouseSquare Behind The Curtain blog, Alicia continues to spread the good news about all the great things that make Greater Cleveland a great place to live on her blog and social media feeds. In her rare spare time, she loves biking, traveling, hiking and being a #crazydoglady. Try to keep up by follow her on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest!
Most times I’m solo, but on extra special occasions, I take advantage of the Cleveland Bike Tours bike rentals via the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s Bike Aboard.
There’s always room for dessert, so I treat myself to Toft’s in Sandusky, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at their Chagrin Falls location and Honey Hut Ice Cream with locations all around Greater Cleveland.
Between all the wonderful independently owned studios to the special events like Believe in CLE, there’s no question — CLE is my OM.
My appreciation for a well-crafted meal comes from many years working my mom’s catering business. My favorites include Pier W, Deagan’s Kitchen & Bar, Dante, Parallax, TownHall, 3 Palms Pizzeria, Spice Kitchen & Bar and Taza.
As a proud #crazydoglady, Northeastern Ohio is a dog lover’s paradise. Read my previous CLE+ post on how friendly it really is!
With an array of inspiring non-profit organizations, there’s no lack of opportunity to give back in our community – with 5Ks, telethons, food and wine events, galas and everything in between, get involved and do good!
My top picks in the Emerald Necklace include Whipp’s Ledges in the Hinckley Reservation and the vigorous climbs in the Brecksville Reservation.
I’ve been enjoying this local treasure – the largest performing arts center in the United States outside of New York – since I was a child. From an audience member to a previous employee at Great Lakes Theater Festival to a current blogger for the PlayhouseSquare “Behind The Curtain” blog, I’m proud to call myself a supporter.
From TweetUps to blogger meetings, taking online connections offline is a passion of mine. I love meeting new people!
I grew up in Parma, I went to college at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, worked downtown and on the East side – but it’s all home to me!
